Naast schrijven en radiomaken, vertaal ik ook van het Engels en het Frans naar het Nederlands. En andersom. Een paar voorbeelden:

Esprit de la Montagne is op de eerste plaats een plek, een heel krachtige plek. Zij ligt aan het einde van de Vallée de la Thines in het zuiden van de Franse Ardèche, voorbij daar waar de weg ophoudt. Ze vormt een eigen besloten kom rond de bedding van de wilde stroom, aan de voet van een waterval. In de zomer is het zuivere bergwater een welkome verkoeling tussen de hete granieten rotsen en het woekerende groen. Op de terrassen bloeit het wilde kruid en groeien langzaam de kastanjes. In de winter vormt de beek een woeste rivier, is de waterval een bruisende of zelfs bevroren muur, raast de wind om de oude gerestaureerde watermolen en wroeten de zwijnen de aarde ondersteboven.
We bevinden ons op 650 meter hoogte. God woont overal, maar zeker hier.

Esprit de la Montagne is een plek die het hart raakt. Zij is weldadig en energiek, licht en helend, maar ook confronterend en naakt. Wij – Tony Koole en Pauline Mol – kwamen er jaren geleden terecht en zijn ervoor gaan zorgen. Maar eigenlijk zeggen we liever: de plek heeft ons gevonden en zorgt voor ons. Ze heeft ons al heel veel geleerd over de kunst van het (over)leven.

Esprit de la Montagne est primairement un lieu très puissant. Il se situe au bout de la Vallée de la Thines au sud de l’Ardèche, au-delà du point où la route se termine. Il forme son propre bassin recouvert autour du lit du courant violent, au pied d’une cascade.

En été, l’eau de montagne claire est un rafraîchissement bienvenu entre les rochers de granite chauds et les verdures. Sur les terrasses, les herbes poussent et les châtaigniers grandissent lentement. En hiver le ruisseau forme une rivière violente et la cascade devient un mur dynamique et parfois gelé. Le vent souffle autour du moulin à eau retapé et les sangliers creusent la terre.
Nous nous trouvons à 650 mètres d’altitude. Dieu vit partout, mais surtout ici.

Esprit de la Montagne est un endroit qui touche le coeur. Il est bienfaisant et énergique, léger et guérissant, mais aussi conflictuel et nu. Nous – Tony Koole et Pauline Mol – y atterrissions il y a de nombreuses années et nous nous en occupions depuis. Mais en fait nous préférons dire : l’endroit nous a trouvés et s’occupe de nous. Il nous a déjà beaucoup appris à propos de l’art de (sur)vivre.

Esprit de la Montagne is primarily a place, a very powerful place. It is located at the end of the Thines Valley (Vallée de la Thines) at the south of the French Ardèche, past the point where the road ends. It forms its proper enclosed basin around the bed of the wild current, at the foot of a waterfall. In summer the clear mountain water is a welcome refreshment between the hot granite rocks and the infesting weeds. On the terrasses the wild herbs flower and the chestnut trees grow slowly. In winter the creek forms a fierce river, the waterfall is a vibrant or even frozen wall, the wind rages around the old restored water mill and the wild boars root up the soil.
We are located at 650 meters of altitude. God lives everywhere, but certainly here.

Esprit de la Montagne is a place that touches the heart. It is beneficent and energising, light and healing, but also confrontational and naked. We landed here years ago and have started taking care of it. But actually we prefer saying: the place has found us and takes care of us. It has already taught us much about the art of living and surviving.
